First off, I know that there have been plenty of previous posts regarding the common squeek that most people run into when they go over speed bumps, dips, etc. However, they all seem to say to just spray it with lube. Now I've done this and I didn't like the results; Lasted for a week or so and then it came right back. There has to be something going bad or something that needs replacing...right? Shocks? Leaf springs? Sway Bars? Could someone please tell me of a permanent fix for this hassle...Thanks!

Is it coming from the back, leaf springs????

The previous owner of my expo told me that he had an annoying squeak from the back. Apparently there are Teflon inserts in between the leafs to prevent this. He had them replaced and no more squeaks...

Could be the sway bar bushings????? Is this in the back or front?

If it's in the front, mine was a ball joint.

my front end was creaky on my 96 sport until I replaced the LBJ and it went away...I never did change the upper

After BJ's, I gave the sway bar bushings a shot of WD-40. Worked for a few weeks but then it returned.

It's the back...so does that mean I need new leaf springs? If so, how much will it cost me?

mine has been squeaking lately too i tried wb40 and it still been squeaky

you do not need new leafs. just news bushings, available at pretty much any parts store. or you can grease you old ones, but you need to drop the leaves to do that anyways, might as well run new parts. also possible its your sway bar bushings, located on either side on the back of your differential. again, grease or replace. good luck!

They shouldn't need replacing. The previous owner of mine was told the only way to fix it was to replace the entire leaf spring packs. He ended up taking it to a local Spring Shop and they replaced the inserts, all for about $60. That was about 6 years ago so I don't know if they will even bother with it any more. :dunno:

Do you have any idea how much any of this would cost? Also, is the labor associated with replacing these parts exspensive, because I'd have to take it to a shop. Thanks!

I took my rig out for some donuts in the ice sheet we got the other night, and now my front right is squeaking bad. I gotta check it out this weekend.

just to be safe $100, but most likely under that. plan about $40 for the bushings (either leaf bushings or sway bar bushings) and an hour of labor. if its the sway bar bushings, then you could do it yourself in about 10 mins with a 13(?)mm rachet.
