i have a 96 plorer eddie bauer edition.

i have a squeal from my front left wheel the squeal would kinda skip and sounded as if my pads were worn all the way until i would brake and the squeal would go away and start again as i start driving, pads still had half their life left, took it to the shop n they said my rotor was worped, replaced that, squeal went away for half a day and came back, checked the caliper and it was frozen, replaced it with a new oem one, the squeal went away for a day then came back, replaced the pads because there was a nice chip in the middle missing, any clues or ideas?

Wheel Bearing

Had same problem, replaced left wheel bearing also called hub assembly. If your lucky you can find the old part number as it is almost half price. Easy to replace. Before you jack the car up use 1.25" socket to get the giant nut off in the center of the wheel (after you take the hubcap off.) It is in at 200 lbs so it takes a nice breaker bar to get off take two 13 mm caliper bolts off, 15mm to get caliper mounting bracket and 15mm to get the three hub bolts off. A 3" extension is very helpful to get those off. And on my 95 with 151000 miles I needed the breaker bar to crack those loose as well. Put everything back together and invest in the torque wrench to put that driveaxle nut back on. Otherwise you will ruin the new bearing and possibly the half shaft for 4wd if you have it. If you dont have 4wd the nut I dont think will even be there.

Project takes about an hour.
