Does anyone know where Icould get some stainless steel brake lines. I've put them on other cars and it really does make a difference in pedal feel. Explorer Express says they are coming, but I haven't seen anything yet.

Stainless steel brake lines

In general, the stainless steel brake lines prevent the "ballooning" of the traditional rubber lines. New rubber lines and new stainless lines often have the same performance feelings.

I've also heard some horror stories from the stainless lines breaking, causing the brakes to fail. This is because the stainess steel doesn't flex as willingly as the rubber lines as the suspension moves. The breaks usually occur between the end-fittings and the flexible stainless line.

I would assume that if you do lots of wheeling, where your suspension moves alot, i wouldn't buy the stainless ones, and just get replacement rubber ones.

However, i do run stainless lines on the race cars, where our suspension moves only a couple inches.

Hope this helps.

On my previous car...

I had SS brake lines. They were actually quite flexible. They just mounted to the same points as the rubber lines and had the saem range of motion. Never had any problem with those, and I had them on for three years, then we sold the car. Maybe the build varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.

hmmmm

the failures of SS brake lines that i've seen and heard about have occurred in stock suspension or long travel suspension vehicles. Mostly cars, but i would assume that some of you guys that have lifted explorers could have this problem. The SS lines broke where the flexible line meets the hard line/connector. The connector actuallly rubbed through the line.

Hey DocVijay

Hey DocVijay I noticed you have 17" wheels on your explorer. Did you used to have those 5 spoke wheels from the factory? Do you still happen to have any of those wheels that you could sell to me? You can contact me at kiato4@yahoo.com . Thanks. Good luck with the SS Brake Lines. I thought Explorer Express had them available. I may look into them.

Sorry.

I got rid of those wheels long ago. Sold them to a friend.

I have 4 from my 2000 explorer sport, that i would like to sell?
