Hey Guys,

I've got this nasty problem im hoping one of your guys can help me out on. My 93 Explorer keeps stalling out!

If you were following my rebuild post about a month ago you know that I took the engine apart all the way down to the heads. I replaced all the gaskets, cleaned every piece to that car, replaced the rocker arms, and all the stuff listed below. Anyway, after the rebuild everything was working great, started right up, very smooth idle, and all was well **or so I thought**

The problem I have is that the moment the car warms up it stalls out. The car has no power going up hills, I've got to put it in 2nd just to make it up the slight incline to my house. The brakes pedal feels like its traveling more than it used to (my guess is that there is a vacuum leak).

When its cold, it starts right up, idle is a bit higher when its cold, once it gets to about 1/8 warm the idle drops and thats when the mess starts.

Once its warm, if you rev the car to about 1,000-1,500 the exhaust sounds like a bunch of fireworks taking off. Then if you let off the pedal and look at the tail pipe, a bunch of black smoke comes out the back. Seconds later, the tach starts to bounce a little, goes down to about 750rpm, then bounced down to 500 and then stalls out.

To get her started, the stater has to be engaged for longer than normal, and then finally VROOM! she starts... only to stall out 5-10 seconds later. What is going on with my explorer!??!

During the rebuild I:
Replaced all the spark plugs
Replaced the spark plug wires
Replaced the rocker arms
Replaced all the gaskets with the FelPro Ultimate gasket kit for the explorer
New oil and filter - Motorcraft Syn Blend 5w-30 & motorcraft filter
New coolant
New Acc. Belt
Cleaned the K&N airfilter
Cleaned the MAF with MAF cleaner
Cleaned the Throttle body with TB cleaner
New PCV valve
New Head bolts, and manifold bolts
^^ All these parts that I replaced were all from my FORD dealer.. I wanted to be as OEM as possible

While everything was dismantled I cleaned everything. I took off all the things on the intake manifold, and then left the intake manifold in a very concentrated simple green bucket... That did wonders overnight.. It took out all the black crud in the intake manifold. I also did that with the cylinder heads, got all the carbon build up off, and then while all that was soaking, I cleaned with shop towels all the deposits on the pistons. Then I connected everything back up, put the gaskets on correctly, used plenty of gasket maker, tightened all the bolts down to Haynes Book specs. Once everything was put together, I filled up the coolant and oil, made sure everything was a-ok. Started her up and she started.

The weird part is that the explorer will only stall out on you when its sitting idle, if its in D,R,3,2,1 she just has a rough idle, if shes in N or P she stalls.

Help me guys, what could it be? What should I do or look for. Any ideas, opinions, thoughts, are all welcome.
