i have a '91 explorer 4.0L push rod V6. Have had the truck for almost a year now with little problems but within the last two months there have been problem after problem. Not sure if it is caused by cold weather, not sure if this could be the problem or not but just before the problems started had just put in a remote starter with alarm system. Had checked the codes and had two problems, have since fixed those. The truck some days have problems starting other days it does not want to start. Not sure if something is possibly shorting something out. Can somebody please help me?

it sounds like it is frozen and trying to turn over then it will catch and start but twice in the past week it totally just died and would not start, the next morning it would start with no problem. It also sounds when it is driving like it is sputtering. I had just bought a new battery the other day hoping that is the problem. But am not sure. It does not sound like it use to. Are these trucks known to not start well in the cold weather?

It could be the battery cables. They rot on the inside, especially on the first generation explorers. Try replacing them and see what happens.
