Hope this is the right place to ask these Q.
92 Explorer XLT 4x4, 3.73 L/S had an automatic, now in B II with a 5 speed.

What is the difference between a standard and automatic stater? Both have 10 tooth drive gears and mesh to a 138 tooth ring gear.

Seperator plate from 4.0 OHV has the same bolt holes as the one from a 2.9, but is longer and will have to be used in the swap. The starter holes align with all other hole in both plates.

The flex plate is a little shy of 1/8 inch difference in height at the ring gear compared to the flywheel. The flywheel ring gear being closer to the motor.

With the separator plate bolted to the motor and the starter attached with the flywheel in place I have 1/4 inch or so between the starter drive and the ring gear, when the drive is not engaged.
