Hey Guys,

My 1999 Explorer XLS is not turning and idling consistently. I have a brand new battery, I changed the fuel filter and cleaned the maf sensor. But still will not turn over consistently. It runs great once started, but will not start on first try very often. Check engine light is on and code p0171 and p0174 bank too lean came up on the reader. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Vacuum leak somewhere, 99 percent of the time. Check all you're vacuum lines first.

I had similar codes and than a no start issue. Finally got off my butt and started looking into it. after cleaning MAF code 113 popped up. I decided to clean IAT sensor and IACV control valve valve. 97 Explorer (4.0 X vin code) is back on the road and I am hopeful all problems are resolved. I have not thrown a code in several hundred miles and no problem starting since repair.Don't know if this is your problem but for 25 minutes work it's a great starting point. Also it appears to have better acceleration than I've had in awhile.
