ok so heres the deal i have an 05 xlt with the 4.0 and sometimes when i go to start it it doesnt want to start. it will start if i give it gas and itll spit a cloud of smoke and then it will be fine. anyone ever have a similiar problem or know what could cause it?

I'm just starting to have the same issue with my 05 XLT. It happens once in a while, and always after it's been sitting for a whole day. I looked up TSBs on the 05 Explorer and found one #051016 that indicates "no start/hard start on cold soak - 4.0 L engine". I can't find any details on the TSB however.

If anyone else knows anything about this problem, I'd love to hear it.

Cheers, Gary

Hello im experiencing similar problem.
I have 04 explorer eddie bauer 4.0 engine
And when I start it first thing in the morning, it starts normal, but when I've been driving around let's say running errands during a hot day every time I turn it on it takes long to start and it sometimes hesitates during that situation. Any one else experience this problem? I would appreciate anyone's feedback
