Help! The fuel pump kicks in when the key is turned on, but the motor won't turn over. What could be the problem?

Ahh how is the battery, starter, and cables on the truck?

Welcome to the forums.

It won't turn over at all, but does the starter click? Might just be a dead battery or a corroded battery cable. Thats pretty common on older vehicles.

Check your battery cables . Could be loose or corroded. Also check the wires to the starter. The starter could be going. Get undernieth and tap the starter with a hammer firm but gentle while someone turns the key. This may solve your problems temporarily. Try not to bang the selenoid. If it turns over, it's probably your starter. When you turn the key, if it clicks once, it's probably the starter. If it goes click, click, click, really fast in succession, it's probably a bad connection on the battery. Also, listen for the relay. The only other thing I can think of is the starter gear jammed against the flywheel. Good luck
Peace

it wants to start

the motor turns over and it kind of fires up every once in a while but never will actually start. I bought it from a friend and they had stripped it pretty good but as far as i know we have every thing back in place. We had to replace the fuel tank and the lines up to the fuel filter and i thought maybe the lines had gotten switched up so i took the line loose from the back of the filter and the gas flowed out the right direction when the pump came on.

The guy i bought it from said that someone ay have taken out a chip, but i was told by someone else that fords in that year model didn't have chips, so i am open to any suggestions on how to get this vehicle running.

The spark plugs are sparking so that is not the problem either.

You need three things for it to run. Spark, compression, and fuel air mix. you've got spark so I'd check the fuel pressure at the rail. Should be about 35-45psi. Could be your crank position sensor (CPS) as well. Double check all of your connections. Could also be vacum related or your fuel pressure regulator.

Where would the computer be that has the chip that tells the motor what to do in this truck?
