Anyone know of any issues with the 2004 explorer model not starting?

Mine has not started on numerous occassions. When turning the key is acts like it is flooded, even though it is not. By chance I give it gas at the right time and it starts. The dealership acted like it that was not a big deal! It has happened in cold weather and 50 degree weather so I know it is not a weather related issue.

Appreciate the feedback!

Are you turning the key to on and waiting a few seconds before you start it. If so, you are overloading the cylinders with unneeded fuel, and ulimately flooding it. This i not good practice as it the fuel will find it's way to the engine oil. I learned that on the hard way. Sometimes mine won't start the first time either, and has done this from the day I bought it.

take it to another dealer, thats what i would do

Clean the Idle Air Control valve (IAC). It could also be a problem with the Theft System.

Is it possible to flood a fuel injected motor? I did not think that was possible. I have also read hundreds of times that you should always wait for the fuel pump to presurize the rail before starting. I'm confused

I'm with you on this one... I always thought you were supposed to do the same? I always wait for the fuel pump to finish energizing before starting. Never had a problem in all the years of owning FI cars/trucks.

Sorry guys but I am only slightly above average when it comes to the details of auto knowledge. This is my 4th explorer and this is the only one I have had this problem with. I also have a friend who had a Mountineer and they are also having the same problem.

It may be an issue with the PCM. Ford seems to be having s**tloads of problems lately with computers and 4x4 modules on the newer ex's. Eneurb, have you seen any 3rd gens coming in with this problem??
