Starting Problems

Just be very careful of static electricity!

About 6 months ago, my best friends father was dropping a fuel tank and burned his garage down and completely engulfed him in flames. He probably wouldn't have survived if he didn't have a swimming pool right next to his garage. Fire department never did figure out what ignited the fumes.

Yikes that **** is scary. Way back when I was in the airforce I was putting a plastic gas can in the flammable liquids lock-up. Everything had to be bonded to earth with a cable and clamp. When I was putting the clamp on the gas can a large static spark jumped to the clamp... no other drama but it certainly opened my eyes. I always equalize my static charge to things that can ignite and/or electronic parts by touching them in a safe place prior to removing them or exposing any flammable liquids or fumes.

Oh, and I use a brass drift when removing locking rings on fuel tanks. Non-sparking.

My 02 ford explorer was getting hard to start, smelled gas, plus the check engine light was on, so I took it to my local Ford dealer, they said I had to replace the Fuel damper assembly and the Sensor assembly for a total of $1,037.33, So, I said one time fix, no car payments so get it done, two days later my check engine light came on again, I took it back now they said CG-682 gasket and the CX-2077 ERG Valve needed replaced for $300+ I was pissed. so they knocked off half the cost. and today, the check engine light is on again. I am not a happy camper. I have no idea what to do... now..i just looked on line at videos to replace it, and it took less than an hour to do. they took $300 to replace it.

If you want to fix it yourself, read and understand this thread and others, find out what codes are causing the CEL to light and start you own diagnosis OR take it to a mechanic who can diagnose problems rather than a parts replacement shop, AKA Ford dealership.
