I just bought a (used, obviously) '97 EB w/ the 5.0 & AWD (i dunno if those will make a difference in this question)...

For a month now the truck has started fine with no problems whatsoever. Last week i was cleaning and found two unconnected brown wires under the drivers side dash... i connected them and every so often it sounded (while I was driving) like the alarm was trying to arm itself. I undid the wires and now the car won't start without the wires touching briefly before I turn the key... if not, it just won't start = the lights on the dash light, all the console gauges check out o.k., and the message center doesn't send me warnings..

Could it have been stolen? Could it be something related to the new battery I put in? Carfax checked out ok, and the mechanic had said everything was a.o.k...

sorry for the long post... but i'm pretty paranoid that I got screwed on the purchase, Thanx in advance (assuming anyone can help)

I am not 100% sure but I would try this: Ask around more as well:

leave the wires apart like they were when the car started fine - if thats ok and doesnt cause problems and with them apart (the brown mystery wire) and your car off unhook your battery and let it sit for about 5 minutes then rehook and start your car -

Or try this process with the wires connected -

Sounds logical and its somthing I did before on a foriegn car -

Sounds like it had a dealer installed or aftermarket alarm and it had a switch there or the alarm started messing up. Then it was just disconnected. Do you have an alarm with those disconnected? Hmmm, definately sounds like an alarm problem to me.

Thanks guys...

:frustrate I'm just looking at all the possibilities, thanks for your help. I'll try to unhook the battery as soon as it stops raining.
