I have finally acquired all of the pieces to my new system, except for the most critical part - the 3 Audiobahn ALUM12Qs... Despite this, I started building the box and amp rack today. I hope to have the system finished as soon as the subs show up in the mail.

The whole system in the works:

3 Audiobahn ALUM12Q Subwoofers
1 Audiobahn ABC5002 Component Set
1 Audiobahn AT61 Tweeter Set

1 Audiobahn A2200HCX Amp for the subs
1 Audiobahn A2601Q Amp for the components and extra tweeters
1 Audiobahn ACAP15X 3 Farad Capacitor

I'll be sure to post pics when it is done!

sweet.... sounds like it will sound good

cool. i cant wait to see pics.
how are you building the enclosure? fiberglass? carpeted MDF? vinyl covered MDF?

It is going to be 3/4" braced MDF, with each sub having its own 1.5 ft^3 of air.... I haven't quite decided on a covering. My roommate, who works with the stuff a lot, says we can cover it with a carbon fiber/kevlar composite material for reasonably cheap, and that would look really cool (It looks like carbon fiber, but with a blue weave intertwined with the standard weave). But I have to see how much money I have for that kind of thing. If I decide against that, I'm just going to sand it smooth, give it a few coats of primer, paint it to match the interior panels, and give it a few coats of clearcoat over that.

sounds good.
you can get that carbon fiber composite material in a lot of different colors (yellow, red, blue, green, orange, purple, etc...). but painting and clearcoating looks really cool too.

why not cover it with carpet?

I wasn't too interested in the carpeted look for this particular box... Since it is going to go up flush against both side panels, I just didn't think carpeting would look right. That's just me though. The amp rack (which is going to be a false floor with the amps underneath on a slider) is going to be carpeted though.

yeah, carpeting is too common. most of the time it looks to plain.

with a painted, fiberglass, or plexi enclosure you could make it look a lot nicer.

I agree completely. I'd skip carpeting the amp rack, but since I'll be putting stuff on it from time to time, and it's meant to look like the floor, it's getting carpeted. :) Wouldn't want to make it really nice and have it get scratched or scuffed from something I put in the trunk.
