02 Explorer sport
I've got a 02 Explorer sport 4.6l. The engine turns over and then dies out. The first time I heard it I immediately thought of the fuel pump as it just didn't seem like it was getting enough gas to keep running. Once the vehicle turns over if you keep your foot on the gas and at 2500 RPM's it will keep running as soon as you take your foot off it sounds like it is choking to death and dies. After trying to keep it runnning a few time it sound like it had an air leak. The truck had an air leak at one time the hose coming out of the air intake just passed the MAF sensor came off. Cleaned the air intake throttle body area and replaced the cracked hose. Ran for over a year with no problems now this and I can't find anything visibly wrong. Where sould I start first?

check the intake manifold o rings. i had the same prob then my mechanic changed the o rings and prob ended...it also could be a worped intake manifold... cuz there only plastic

could be a number of things as other folks have said check the IAC and then check for a fouled plug a broken wire and coil packs

Still working on it...

Okay finnaly got back to the truck. Disconnected the MAF and she stayed running. No hesitation or idle issue either. I then got two codes, P 0102 and P 0113 which would make sense since I disconnected the MAF. Here's the thing though after driving for 15 minutes when you come to a stop the engine would stall. Not sure why. I am going to get my hand on a new MAF sensor today an I'll let you know what happened.

Replaced the MAF

Replaced the mass airflow sensor and still does not work properly. Starts and jumps right to 3k RPMs then wants to stall. If you disconnect the MAF it will stay running. When it's connected it acts like its choking. I did notice a sound I may have missed earlier which simply sounds like an airleak. Checked all the hoses didn't see anything. Noise sounds like its in the area of the Air Instake Manifold. Gonna take a look at the the O rings and the vavle. Any more suggestions...?
