Ok, so I am at the brink of blowing up this 1994. Not too long ago I was having a lot of power issues. Turns out I needed a new MAF. Replaced that - power is back. Replaced the TPS. Got a transmission leak. Got a new torque converter, sealed the leak.

Then the truck started acting up again. Please bear with me here.
When the Explorer is cold, it will start.
When the Explorer just got finished driving (within 5 minutes), it will start.
When the Explorer just got done running and it sits (after let's say 10 minutes). It will start, rev to 1000, drop to 500, shake the car, die. Then I will have to try to start it again and again, each time the car makes a more pathetic attempt to start. Eventually the RPM's will jump to 1000, I will put my foot on the gas and hold it at 2700-3100RPM for a few seconds, then the idle will drop to normal and the car will run fine until I shut the truck off again.

I tried another new MAF sensor, replaced the coil pack, opened the EGR up (sorry environment), and reset the fuel injection cutoff switch.

Fuel system, EGR, intake, etc? Please help me on this one. I don't feel like losing my truck after all we've been through :( . I have seen in the other threads something about an IAC, what is that?

To anyone who can cue me in, :salute: .

2 things come to mind...fuel filter or vapor lock...

I had no idea vapor lock could occur with this car. After a little researching, that seems like it could be the problem. Anyone else deal with this?

BEcause the fuel delivery system is under pressure (40 psig), it is difficult for it to "vapor lock" in the traditional sense of the term.

Most faults in the fuel delivery system can be diagnosed using a fuel pressure gauge. I would probably carry a fuel pressure gauge around with me and, next time it won't start, hook it up and see what the fuel pressure is doing when it won't start.

IAC=Idle Air Control valve. It attaches to the side of the upper intake and controls air flow at closed throttle.

dumb question... what do you mean by "opened the EGR up"??????? why?????

Okay, so I got things under control. Just a follow up for those who fathomed interest.

It was indeed a fuel injection problem. The inertia switch that is located under the passenger side heater was faulty. I dunno if it was from getting the truck wet, off-roading or what. Whatever the case, I'm way too broke to pay for another switch and the ones at the junkyard don't seem too promising. So I took a wire connecter and just crimped the two wires together. Now she's back to starting up every time.

Although I'm still not sure how the heating issue came into play...any guesses?

the going wheeling in water would have helped a little in knowing how to help you...water is not a good thing, lol...neither is mud...get ahold of kbabiak as he is a member here, a vendor here, lives in pa. and probably the best parts supplier you'll ever meet...

Why does this thing screw with me? It's moody.

Alright, hotwiring the safety feature worked...for a bit. But like every time I get a good hope for the Exploder, it messes with me again.

My step today was finding out that the relay was a little loose. So I put a new relay in and tightening the fittings inside the power distribution box up a little.
