they are telling me that my speed sensor is causing my transmission to miss a shift from 1st to 2nd. i told them that it cant be that because if it was than my abs light would be on also since on the 98+ explorers uses the abs to deturmine speed. i suggested that the shift solinoid is messed.

am i on the right trach or should i shut my mouth either way it is covered by warrantee. i just want my explorer back they have had it for 3days trying to figure it out

Let us know what it turns out to be.

These tempermental trannies seem to provide the most challenging/annoying issues.:(

Please come back and tell us what eventually fixes it as my husband's 95 is having the same problem. He's about ready to give up on his but he did get 330K out of it

I don't see any harm in giving the stealership your opinion--especially since it's under warranty. I have seen some TSBs about this same problem so they must be confused over it. You are lucky to be under warranty so just stick with it and get all the bugs out while it's free. Can they give you a loaner?

i didn't ask cause i am driving the pos.beater around. 91 volvo 740 turbo has a bad clutch and the engine is one giant vaccum leak.

i am kinda pushing them to give me a new tranny so i am debating weather them to give up finding the prolblem and just throw in a new tranny

330k out of a tranny i would be happy if i only got half that milage out of mine. chances are a lot of things in it are worn out.

Oh no. I should have been clearer. He has 330,000 on the engine and has had two transmissions in addition to the original. The current transmission (?4th, I've lost count haha) is having the same problem as yours.

He has agreed to drop the pan and him and his buddies will look at it when the weather gets warmer in the spring. I am trying to accumulate suggestions and ideas before then. He's been driving it with the lst to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd non shifting problem for months now. He's found a way to work around the problem and drives it almost daily.

I am looking forward to hearing more about your transmission work.

i would check to make sure that the valve body is torqued down and that the gasket has not been blownout and also check that the fluid is at the proper level and is the proper color

Billy: Did you get your X back yet? I am waiting to hear what the problem was.

My husband won't touch his until he's made it through this winter. He's agreed to drop the trans pan and change the fluid and filter in the spring. Then I will give him all the ideas everyone's been giving and see what/if I can talk him into trying.

they didn't really know but they are gonna look at it again when they finish up the timing chains. now i know it is the computer because it works fine with the apten in but if i say that i dont know what they will do. my guess is they will say that the apten messed the computer
