i was backing out of driveway and the steering colum popped and now when i straighten the wheel up i go to the left. and not slightly either. i can take curves with the wheel straight. i just had and alignment and balance done a few days ago. could they have messed somthing up?

i have tp hold the wheel to the right to get it to go straight

any work could have cuased a problem....

however, it sounds like your clockspring broke.... do a search... i saw a thread not to long ago about a broken clockspring

searched for broken clockspring and just clockspring. came up zip. i was just going to take it back to firestone to have them fix it but i dont trust them very well. its just better to go in knowing what might be broken. and if it is, could i just look at it throught the engine compartment and tell or is it inside something?

pu the two together... thay worked on your truck, wheel popped... and now you have to hold steering wheel in order to keep truck going straigh...

your alignment is off... have them check it again. I had problems with alignment for some time... even dealer was not able to set it right... I did find a shop in the area that does an outstanding job on trucks though and ever since only trust them with my trucks... nobody else. See if you can find someone like this in your area.

Good luck!

Did they retighten everything? I just had my work van in at Reichert Chevy in Crystal Lake, IL. for an allignment that lasted three weeks. The top of the steering wheel points to 11 O'Clock now. After driving it home I crawled under the front end to see if I could find the problem and didn't notice anything except that the four clamps that lock the inner and outer tie rod ends into the adjusting sleeves were all loose. At $85 an hour they could at least tighten the front end back up.

LOL!!! that really made me laugh... and cry at the same time...

what if it fell apart? and you had an accident? How would you know it was them idiots that forgot to tighten everything up?

man... some dealers.

well the ball joinht just came out of place while i was taking pictures of my truck in the snow and it came out while i was backing up off the driveway. they fixed it for free and i lied and told them i wasnt off roading so i didnt have to pay for it:D

:D

How did the ball joint come out of place? Did they replace it?
