I just installed a 3 inch Performance accessories body lift on my 92 xlt explorer. but now my steering is stiff and jerky. I was told there is a way to fix this ...if anyone can help that would be great, the easier you can explain it the better. Thanks!

did you use the extender that came with the lift kit for the steering? If you didnt you better, if you did check it to make sure it looks ok. Mine was stiff at first but then returned to normal.

I did put on the steering extension, but it still continues to be stiff and jerky.

i have the same problem after my 3 inch bl... i used the steering extension and it still is the same... it helped with it but its still not right but its drivable it has stiff spots and when you turn instead of it going back straight by itself, you have to pull it back to straighten it uplater

Mine was the same way. It took awhile for it to break in now its fine.

Changing a steering angle will always change the way it feels. This is common with a 3 inch body lift

i really never noticed any change n the steering from b4/ and after....

but i know if it doesnt get better you can get a whole new steering shaft from (forgot the company do a search) and it is supposedly suppsoe to fix the problems

PEACE

The only problem I have with mine is that when I'm driving straight, I can turn the wheel 3/4 of an inch in either direction with no response from the stearing. No stiffness or jerking at all.

fix steering in PA 3 in lift

I called the company and they faxed me a fix it sheet- I posted here under performance accessories 3 inch body lift.

I am having the same problem- I installed it last night.

take care and good luck.

i had a 92 sport w/ a 3'' body lift with that problem. Easy fix. On the shaft itself, the knuckle just rubs on the shaft when turning. All you have to do is bend it out a little. Get under the hood while someone turns the wheel, you'll see.
