I am having a problem with the steering on my 93x . First off the rig hasn't been lifted (yet). I have just replaced the original auto hubs for MileMarker manual hubs and i replaced the front brakes at the same time.
The problem is when I turn the wheel going around a corner the steering wheel doesn't come back like it used to now it turns back about three quarters to center then it almost feels locked I have to force the steering wheel back to center. I have checked everything from ball joints to u joints and all the steering components ie. tierod ends, pitman arm , steering box,ect everything seems ok yet i still have this problem. I even jacked up both sides of the front end and turned the wheel lock to lock about 20 times and still couldn't find the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated . I hope someone has the answer I am looking for.
Thanks
J

Did the problem start after doing the work on it? If so I'd look at the brake lines and make sure they aren't catching something.

yes the problem started after the work was done but the brake lines dont seems to be the problem. Just last night it started a new problem now it wants to wander from side to side almost the alignment is changing everytime I hit a bump. Im stumped

Mine will do that to, it's like it loses power steering, but its very intermitten. Most of the time its fine. Mine started doing it after a shop put on my dropped pitman arm. I'm pretty sure the steering would snap the brakelines if they were caught. I have a feeling its the box or pump, but don't want to throw new ones on for fear of it being the other, or something totally different. Anyway, if you figure it out let me know.

Well I am taking it to the shop tomorrow night to get my new tires installed (super swamper trxus sts) and while i have it on the rack Ill get a better chance to look at it . I hope that all it is is the box I have a spare in my X that I have for parts I hope its nothing to bad. Thanks

I found the problem with my steering seems i have a bad power assisit valve in the steering box . I guess its not uncommon as i have talked to a couple other X owners who have had the same problem.

Could you let us know how to go about fixing it. Like do you have to take the box out and such. Thanks.
