Where I work, we usually all park in the same spot and well -- of coarse mine is right where the sun wil beam down through my windshield all day long. Today i noticed that my steering wheel was peeling a little bit. Is there any type of fix for it or is it just going to get worse (I'm thinking about getting one of those things that go up in your windshield or parking on the other side. Anyway - any pointers?

Mine si peeling on my 03!!! Im pissed, Im going to demand a new one

www.wheelskins.com I have a two toned red and black, very nice. a bit on the expensive side I know, but I've had it since last Christmas and besides cleaning it once in a while it looks very nice. There not like regular covers, which is nice all my friends comment on it because you have to stitch it on, so it looks very cool. Took me about 2 hours to stitch up, but that's because I'm **** and every stitch had to be perfect.

http://www.wheelskin.com/wheelskinstyle.html Just found a site, that have them for a bit cheaper. This would obviously just make it not noticeable...not prevent it from happening so put something up to protect this or like you said don't park there.

thanks for the post guys. So far the biggest area is about 1/4". It wouldn't bother me but so bad -- but it makes you look cheap and nasty.

Most of my steering wheel has peeled off already.

So is there a fix for the steering wheel besides replacing it or covering it up with some ugly cover?

the entire top half of mine is peeled...i dont think there is any cure once it starts to peel...i would guess you could try leather conditioner ( i did that once, helped a bit, but didnt last long)

Mine was just replaced :D

I dont know.. and to be honest, the wheel feels different than the old one. The new one is 100% leather. Im not sure if the old one was, it felt mroe like a rubber to me?

I will call Ford and ask them what they recommend though.

How much was it? Did you have to replace the airbag too? Also, did you install it? And please get back to us on what they recommend (if anything).

It was all replaced under warranty, the airbag and everything. I will call and ask them tomorrow.

I was able to buy a new grey leather steering wheel that included the cruse control switches on ebay for $50. It was listed as a 97 but it is the same as the 95. The steering wheel was the only sign of wear in my limited and it really took away from a well taken care of Explorer. Now it looks great. Plus my cruse control lights work again.
