As anyone replaced thier steering wheel, and if so was it fairly easy to do? I have a 1995 explorer with a leather steering wheel that is looking a little rough from the years. I am going to replace it with a new leather OEM steering wheel. I am a little scared since it is equiped with an air bag. I know I am suppose to disconnect the battery, but will this insure that the airbag won't deploy? If anyone can provide a link or detailed instruction for this project I would appreciate it!!! Thanks.

i do not think it needs to be too detailed.

for my 93 as follows

unhook the battery, for 15-20 mins.

take the two star style screws off from behind the wheel.

pop off the horn pad thing.

take off one large nut

take your stearing wheel removal tool $15 at any auto parts store, and pop it off.

done

Thanks Charlie...

Yeah that's what I did on my 94. You have an airbag though so I'm not sure how that would be. The manual I have that covers a 95 says to disconenct the battery (both sides) take out a fuse, & wait 15-20 minutes. I can look it up tonight.

yea, if you have time I would appreciate it. I just ordered all my parts which I posted in the New Member Forum so I won't get them until next week. The Explorer should look just like new after that.

Note: I also ordered a Ford service manual on CD for the explorer but I'm not sure when that will ever come in. Hoping it will have answers to all these types of guestions.
