Steering Wheel

Is it possible to easily use the steering wheel from a 2nd or 3rd gen Explorer in a 1st gen 93 XLT? I like the second/third gen steering wheels alot more than the first gen.

Most likely yes, the spline count and size is the issue, but I'll bet that they are the same. Look on eBay, if it works you can use any 95+ steering wheel and airbag.

Thanks CDW6212R. I'm prolly gonna stop by the junk yard and see how much one costs, and if its not too much, give it a shot. Also, do you know if the Center Consoles from the Second Gens fit in the first gens (i've already replaced the center console arm once, and don't particularly care for the style of the first gen console)

The floor mounting is different, plus the dash. You can buy the floor mount brackets and bolt them in, the dash matching should be a minor issue. Good luck, I bought my steering wheel for $25, and the airbag for about $40.

wiring harness

I was just thinking, has anyone tried this? If so, did or does the wiring harness from a 95 match up to that of a 93? Last thing i'd want after installing it is to have my airbag go off because the wiring doesn't match up.

The 95+ steering wheel airbag won't go off in your '93 unless you wire in the sensors for it as well. '93's didn't come with airbags and so don't have the sensors for them.

The airbags have individual connectors. You would only have to match the wires for the cruise control, use the connectors for one model of steering wheel, not both.

you may actually be able to find a deployed airbag steering wheel, and jsut get hte cover too
