Hey all...the steering wheel in my 96 is shot...damn sticky crap all over my hands from the leather paint comeing off. I was wondering if any one knew if the newer steering wheels with the big blue ford emblem fit the same as the 96. Does anyone know about how much one would cost?...im assuming that the airbags are interchangeable. Thanks all

One quick fix that has worked well for me..."Wheelskins"

i think those look cheesey IMO. Plus i like the look of the newer ones better. Does any one know if this is possible?

Thanks for the input. I'll sure try to help you again.

I had the same problem, I dont think my wheel cover looks cheesy.

Thats the same one I got 9.99 at autozone:D

well i dont want to do that....sorry guys im stubborn. But if any one knows if the newer steering wheels fit the 96 that would be great!!

Air Bags are NOT interchangable. The good news is you don't need a new airbag.

So MONMIX are you saying the steering wheel would work but the air bag wouldnt? If the air bags are not interchangeable wouldnt i need to get one for the newer steering wheel? I mainly want to know if the newer steering wheels will fit my 96...like the cruise control contacts and horn contacts and such are in the same spot. I guess i will just have to go to ford and get a micro film printout of both systems and make my own decision....this must be a new idea so i will let everyone know what i find out.

What I am saying is , you have to stick with your year steering wheel cause the new air bag will not wire into the clock spring harness. ( the wires that connect your air bag to the rest of the vehicle )
If you buy another steering wheel , your year , the airbag you now have can be used on the new steering wheel. You do not need a new airbag.
