Okay, I have a 94 XLT with the "Premium" stereo setup.

When I installed my Pioneer HU I found that someone had hacked off the plug for the speaker wires. No problem, I got the color codes and just spliced them all one-by-one.

About a year later, one of my speakers started popping. I pulled out the HU and found that one of the - wires for the speaker had come un-done and it was just grounding itself on random metal parts behind my dash (causing the popping). Fixed, all better.

Now, it is happening again...but with 3 speakers!! So it's time for me to tear my dash apart and fix it again. Okay, my questions:

*Where can I find the color codes again now that I have 3 wires loose? I think people ask for this a lot, but it can never really be found... I tried to search!

*What can I do to keep these damn wires together?!?! I've used those crampable connectors (forget the name) on most of them and hella electircal tape. The tape always like...melts...and comes undone. :fire: Oh, and I don't have a soldering thingee

I need help, I'm going crazy  Thanks!!!!!!

If you get either a haynes or a chiltons manual they usually have the wiring diagrams in them. I've used crimp connectors with no problem for some time now. Are you using a crimper or a pair of pliers? If you're using plier you're better off getting a pair of crimper's theyre cheap.

Solder and shrink wrap is the best, but you can get away with butt splices as long as you use real crimpers and not pliers (like doug said).

Also, i take some zip ties and zip tie all of the wires together after i've made all of the connections. it keeps you from getting a rats nest of wires behind there and it helps to keep them together.

Try here, Gina. I think this is what you want. If not, let me know.

Color code for car audio

I attempted to read the wiring diagram in my Haynes, but it makes no sense. :D It just shows all the wires, and their colors, but it doesn't say which ones are for which speakers.

JamminG4Jim, thanks for the link...I hope that is what I'm looking for. I'm about ready to rip off my dash and check out the colors. A tad confusing that it says there are two wires that are "Green/Orange" and one that is "Orange/Green." EDIT: Actually, I think it's this one *http://thestereoguy.com/misc/wirecodes/fordpremium.htm* for the Premium system. I remember having a brown wire in there... Thanks for the link in the right direction though!!

And I got crimpers, so no problem there. I'll have to go find my zip ties because I know it's a jarbled mess back there! I have it all wired for amp/sub, so there's lots of extra wires that I don't even use (yet). I was planning on never having to take my dash apart again

the first color is the main color, and the second one is the stripe, so green/orange is green wire with an orange stripe, and vice versa
