I have a 99 explorer Limited, and am thinking about picking up a 6 1/2 inch component set. Is there much work that would need to be done to get those in there? i.e cutting the door? Because I really don't want to wack this door up, if that's the case then I would rather stick with a 5 1/4 set. Also going to pull the rear door 5x8s out and stick a 5 1/4 component set in there. I am most likely going to purchase a set of Diamond Audio M661 6 1/2, and M651 5 1/4 components. Thanks in advance.

unless you make some type of custom adapter its not going to jsut bolt in... the stock size is 5x7/4x6

Yeah you need an adapter to properly stick a 5 1/4 in, I am just curious if I would need to wack any metal out. And a 99 limited has different speakers in the front then a regular explorer, I have the mach system, and it does not have the 5x7s in the front from what I understand. I could be wrong though.

Uh, yes, it has 5x7s.

All you need is an adapter for 6.5's, about $10 shipped off eBay. No cutting.

Thats funny, the link at the top of the forum says the audiophile systems have a 4inch mid with 1inch tweeter. Guess he is wrong.

its a 2 in 1 piece... its a 5x7 box with a 4.5" mid and a 1" tweet

not to mention the stock JBL ones sound pretty good! (except for the actual 5x7 rears) i bet the sound would only get better if i changed out the speakers
