I have a 99 sport (4.0 SOHC) with 210K on her. I started getting a rattling sound (pulley/bearing), so I did the check of anything that turned and replaced the PS pump (lots of play in the pulley), replaced the idler (some resistance), replaced the tensioner and pulley. Still got the noise. Dropped the belt and it's still there. WHAT am I over looking? Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Have you ever had the timing chains or tensioner replaced?

Timing chain & guides.

That's one hell of a link there 2000! I have a funny feeling that that task is going to be beyond my limited capabilities. The sound is definitely coming from the front. Prolly shouldn't let the wife continue to drive it?

I have had the same rattle starting at 170000 miles have 202000 on her now I'm looking into the oil cooler or harmonic balancer myself I replaced or checked everything you did and they said here

does the engine have to be removed?

My 91 rattles a lot from teh front, i think its my disconnected AC compressor that is basically just an extra pully to loop around right now and the rotating part and clutch rattle very loudly.

it appears I will be having either Ford or another source do this, way out of my league. Thank you for all the input!
