when I bought this Mountaineer, it failed to lock up. Interstate speed I was running 2600-3000rpm.

since then I have done the solenoid pack, Sonnax valve body, filter & fluid. I know the fluid is to proper level. And I drained the PCM by the Positive/Neg terminals touching while disconnected from the battery. I have also went thru the “learning process” for the new parts installed

since doing the above, I’m now locking up. 70-80mph I run about 2000-2100rpm.

unfortunately, I am still getting the flashing O/D. It is random now instead of every trip. Even while lock up is working.

Any suggestions are appreciated for my next step. I’ve read and read, threads kind of die off with no updates. If anyone needs any further information, just let me know. Vehicle specs in signature.

Looks like it could be the torque converter (which is labor intensive to replace), if i were you i would tribe check if the transmission fluid isn't low because to replace the torque converter you have to pull the transmission.

Get the codes read and find out what it thinks is the problem. No sense trying to randomly guess all the things it could be, when it will tell you.

It’s still the p1744 code.

I went and got the truck scanned fully today at work. Here is my list of recent codes.
I have googled them and seen the meanings, so thank you, but that information is known. As far as it goes, if you have any Ideas on those codes, please feel free to reply.

trans:
p1744

abs:
C1440

security:
B2425

driver seat module (it’s a bad ground in the driver side probably):
B1530
U1950

I definitely appreciate any and all info/advice/thoughts as I work a insane amount of hours and don’t have much free time to search and read like I’d like to.

if anyone has any ‘05 mountaineer PDF’s available, please let me know. I have no problem reading when I can, but I do not know or have seen any places to find the service manual or the transmission manuals.

Also nothing above code wise throws a CEL. The only message/light I get is a flashing O/D light followed by the “check transmission” light when the O/D starts flashing. It will continue to trip the “C-Trans” light about every 10-15mins if I continue to drive it. No matter the speed or if I’m in park just idling.

update on torque converter lock up as well...... it has now stopped most lock ups now IMP. I’m back to running on the interstate 70-80mph at about 2500-2800rpm usually.

I’m bout ready to trade this thing in and get what I can out of it.

Just laying here thinking and searching.
Looks like my ABS code c1440 is most likely my brake pressure sensor.

ok, so we know I have a ABS/brake issue.. I also have a TCC code as well. Which I believe is causing a lock up issue... could it be possible that my transmission issue may be from my ABS unit making the computer think the truck is braking which would then cause the TCC to randomly (and getting more consistent again after the valve body and solenoid pack) to unlock/not lock up?

kind of makes sense to me. But then again it seems like I’m chasing a unicorn here with $500-$600 thrown at the transmission so far.

to add to that, my cruise control Has been working. It doesn’t kick off and it has always worked since I bought it a couple months back. like I’ve seen and read.

When my ABS Module bit the dust, several non-brake issues were immediately apparent as a result. Speed control was dead, TC lockup was deleted, and 4WD was inoperative, all in response to the ABS problem. Even went into "forced Engine Idle" one time.

Replaced ABS Module with a used one, now all OK EXCEPT ABS light on constantly, asking for VIN # download into module. ABS works, however.
