Still trying to round up a dual tandem trailer for my upcoming car show. I'm not having much luck. Seems like U-haul is the only game in town that rents these type of trailers.

So far all I've found are tow dollies. The car I'm towing is front wheel drive so at least I don't have to disconnect the driveshaft.

Anyone ever pulled a tow dolly? Are they unstable at highway speeds? I know they are harder to reverse park. I'd really like a trailer in case the rear wheel bearings were to crap out. Unlikely but still. I'd feel more confident if all four wheels were off the ground.

Unfortunatly I'm driving from East Tennessee to Valley Forge PA which is over 500 miles so that means it's I-81 most of the way. I hate that road. Too many hills and too much traffic.

OK guys, don't laugh. When it comes to American cars I've owned more Fords than anything else. I even got a 68 Fairlane but when it comes to oddball stuff I'm into Fiats and it's ******* cousin the Yugo.

The car I'm taking to the Fiat club gathering this year is my 87 Yugo. I swapped out the original 1100cc for a 1500cc Fiat motor from an X 1/9 which bolts right in. I'm blowing through a Weber DFTA (Fiesta/Escort/Yugo carb) with a T25 from a Saab 9000. Fuel economy is about the same as the Explorer but nowhere near the power of a 5 liter.

While FIAT was absent from the American market since 1982, driving one made me feel like a rebel. Just like driving a Fairlane here in Chevy country makes me feel like a rebel. Now that FIAT has taken over Chyrsler, looks like I'm going to have to find me something that's no longer mainstream. Renault? Opel?

I've used a car dolly a few times.. When there is a car on it, its not bad.. its when its empty that it bounces around. The longest I towed with a dolly is a couple hundred miles..

It had no problems.. BUT, you can't backup.. other than that, all was fine.

If it is for any kind of show car I'd spend the extra $$ on a full trailer. I've used the dolly before and I do believe they also have a lower max speed.

I've used them a few times. I've pulled a jeep wrangler on a 300 mile trip with one. It went just fine. I even hit a deer. I was pulling it with a lifted cherokee and the deer fell trying to get out of the way. The cherokee drove right over it but the dolly was like 4 inches off the ground so the deer was so lucky. It yanked the straps hard enough to burn them.

A dolly should be fine.

I had a trailer at one time but the floor rotted out, tires went flat, etc and sold it because I didn't have time to fix it.

Since this is just something I plan on using one time a year, I can't justify buying another one. Unless I could keep it out of the weather so it doesn't deteriorate but I'm out of garage space.
