my 96 explorer has the automatic headlights and they wont switch on. the problem apears to be somewhere in the linkage between the module that senses the dark and the realy that turns on the lights. the problem also extends to the remote locks, when you press twice the lights normally blink... now they dont... I imagine they use the same realy system.

does anyone have a scematic or details on where the modules are located I eed to be looking at, or any repair ideas?

Probably need to check the headlamp relay in the relay module in the center of the instrument panel. It gets a ground on W/P from the autolamps module to pull up the relay to turn on your lights..... and yep the RAP module does the same thing (ie. sends a grd to the headlamp relay).

there were two realys in what the manual calls madule 4 which controlled lamps, I replaced them, but no luck. I'm thinking of taking the madule loose and looking for corosion or loose wires. I was hoping for more options as I really dont know what to do beyond this

When I said "check the relay"...I meant CHECK to see if you are getting the grd to cause it to operate (assuming that there is also voltage there both to operate the relay and deliver power to your headlights).... not just "replace".
