Where would the wiring harness be located for the CD changer on a '97 XLT with the Premium sound system?

Not sure on this because I have the Audiophile system but...

All the CD changers that I have seen are in the center console..check for a hole in the front...between the insert and the piece where the cupholders are, thats where mine is located. There should be a multi-prong male connection.

Don't quote me on that tho because mine is a 1996 and has a lil different setup than the premium

The harness connector is in the instrument panel console (aka the center console). The connector is C2005 which is a 12 pin connector.

Is this it? (The one in the back)

The wires are a little different from the diagram posted.

I don't think that it is there. You are showing the connectors behind the radio. There isn't enough room for the separate CD changer in the normal radio location. I think that it is somewhere in the center console between the front seats.

I pulled the whole centre console out and all I found was what appeared to be a relay and the connections to the rear stereo controls. Does this mean even though I have the midgrade audio system, it wasn't rewired for the CD changer?

Do you have a picture of that relay? I don't know what relay would be in the center console.

I will look more closely this evening - I don't have access to the schematics here at work.

It's on the left.

I've no idea what it's doing there, seems like an odd spot. I don't understand why it isn't with the rest.

Ford likes to hide the relays for some reason. Its like a game to see if you can find them all. :p

I will look at the schematics later this evening, but I think you may be out of luck with the CD changer harness. My schematics are for a 97 since I also have a 97 and they should be correct.

Okay, first I checked to see where the CD changer is mounted. The illustrations kinda suck, but I'm positive that it is mounted inside the center console.

So why isn't the connector there? My speculation is that they only supply that part of the harness if the changer is installed at the factory. But on the schematics, I can look for the wiring and find out where the next closest connector (the one the missing harness plugs into).

From the schematic, it looks like all of the wiring for the CD changer passes thru connector C292, so I would look for it next.

P.S. I think it might be that huge connector in the middle of the pic where you show the relay on the left. Check to see if the wire colors match.

That big plug is actually connected to the rear controls. It must be the one in the diagram, but the wires that I have that correspond on there are a little different, colour wise.

The only open plug is that one in the first picture. I don't see it labelled on the diagrams through.

I'll probably end up taking it into a Ford dealership and seeing if they can see what I need.

In the C2005 diagram what the hell is "Audio Corporate Protocol A and B" and ASYS.

I'm trying to find a +12v that is hooked to the lights so I can install cup holder LEDs.

My guess is that Audio Corporate Protocol A and B are serial bus signals to communicate between the CD changer and the Main unit.

Also guessing that ASYS On means Audio System On. This might be +12V when the Main unit is on. There is also a Power wire in that connector that is on at all times.
