Any ideas as to enhance the stock the fog lights on my 97 Eddie Bauer Explorer? I searched for ever for diamond cut replacements but couldn't find any. I was thinking about just getting better bulbs, but I thought maybe someone on here may have a better alternative...

My front bumper has the rectangular shaped fog lights, I would rather not spend the money on a new bumper if I don't have to.

Si,
100% improvement. Excellent choice and I agree, you can find those bumpers for pretty cheap if you know where to look...

I like my steel bumper and would not give it up for the world. There are other options, you could slap the stock ones back in there or you could go a similar route, like I did.

I used KC HiLites 26 Series ....link

I wouldn't change them for the world, they are bit pricey but I could never go back to the stocks. 55w fog lights are very nice in the winter.

The look just like the stocks but are way better!!!

I got mine from Autozone and they are the same shape and size and were only $20 in stock. Definately needed to upgrade the stockers!

what wattage are they? Mine are all hazy and do nothing but light up- I can stand in front of them and not even light up my leg. I need to upgrade. Have you wired them into your stock harness?

How I did mine was wire up a relay and the relay gets its kick on signal from the stock wiring, so my button and everything works just like factory. I DO NOT recommend reusing the stock wiring for after market fog lights. Thats taking a risky and probably expensive road. My fogs pull about 55watts thats about equal to 9 amps i think. Not knowing what the stock wiring could handle I went with the safest and better approach by wiring it up with a relay and its own power source.

Thanks Adam- excellent point, sadly, that didn't enter into my tiny mind... I love the way the front of your truck looks! Those crystals look awesome!

Thank you for the compliments, the diamond cut headlights/corners really set off the truck, I especially love how the fogs go with them.

You need any help with the wireing or pics of the install, just let me know, it only takes two seconds to snap a few.

warning - science follows

watts = volts X amps

If you know watts and volts, you can solve for amps by dividing watts by volts. For instance, 55 watts @ 12 volts = 55/12 = 4.58 = about 5 amps (I always round up on amps.)

I totally agree though, the stock wiring on newer cars look very, very thin for what they are supposed to do, at least to me....

that's what they put fuses in for. if you're exceeding the limit of the fuse, then you need to upgrade the wiring.

You can still use the existing wiring to control the Relay and just add new heavier gauge power wires.
