Stock fog light replacement bulbs?

I just replaced my stock bulbs with Xenon SuperBlue's made by Eurolite. I gotta test em out tonight! YAY!

They're 893's btw.

Yeti,

Good detective work, Bud! My stock bulbs are definitely have the 9045. The 9005s look identical to your pic of the 9005, except for the errant tab position.

I haven't had a chance to run out to the truck to check out the owner's manual yet, but from your pic, I know I don't have the H-1s.

Sport, when I pulled the bulbs out (actually twisted) I got the thing which looks like a 9005.

The I noticed the silver lower part of the bulb and compared it to a bulb in the Performance Parts catalog. I noticed that the bulb part looked like an H-1. When I looked closer I realized that the bulb actually pops out of the 90 black degree housing part and what you get is the H-1 bulb like above!

I have looked everywhere and could not find a single piece of information on a 9045 bulb, or that one even exists for that matter. How did you determine that your bulb is a 9045?

How dumb is this: I don't remember where I found out about the 9045 application. I need to check my manual. I am out of here in about 10 minutes. I will check my manual when I get in the truck and log on when I get home.

My 9045s twisted out and I didn't notice any way the bulb could pull out of the housing.

I have found 9045s at Wal-Mart and Autozone. Both had high output bulbs, and both also carried the 9005s.

Ok, now I'm leaving in 5 minutes and will be home 5 after that (gotta love a 2.5mi commute!).

I also have a 99 and i was wondering what bulbs i could put in there to make it brighter because my headlight covers kill most of the light from my headlights.

Your guess as to what goes in there is just as good as anyone else. Nobody seems to know the answer. I know that if you put a bulb with more wattage than the originals that are in there you are taking the chance that your wires might melt. I had that happen to me with cheaper aftermarket fog lights.

Al, according to the manual a 1999 has 893 bulbs. Check out '96explorereddiebauer's post below for a site that has replacement bulbs.

Yeti,

Ok, I have my manual right here...foglamp 9145, just like I sai...DOH!!!!

I f'd up. Sorry about that. You would think a CPA would have his numbers straight. My stock bulbs are 9145s and the PIAA SuperWhites I installed are still the 9005. The back of the PIAA box shows the bulbs as 9005/HB3 if that helps any.

99X, heres one thing you can do to make your lights brighter: take off the covers. I wouldn't worry about the PIAA SuperWhites burning out wires, etc. They run on a hair over stock wattage but use some proprietary technology to improve lamp output...or at least thats what the box says.

Aldive, don't you have an owner's manual? Check out e-bay.

Yeti,

I just checked out your site. Nice looking truck. I am not impressed with most of the tacky mods people have done to their trucks. Just visit the Sport Trac site for an idea of what I'm talking about: hood scoops, air deflectors, wings...argh! You did a great job. Very tasteful.

Tell me about the Saleen pedals. Are they covers for the stock rubber pads, or replacements for the stock rubber pads?

Sport, thanks for the compliments. That's exactly the look I'm going for, different but not pimp. Being a lawyer who represents doctors I've got to maintain at least an image of respectability. (What they don't know won't hurt 'em :mattmoon: )

Anyways, the Saleen pedals are covers. You are "supposed" to remove the rubber pads, drill holes into the pedals and then screw them in. I tried that and quickly realized that drilling holes in the brake pedal was going to be a MAJOR pain in the ass. What I did was I got very short self-tapping screws whose heads fit in the holes in the pedals. I removed the rubber cover, screwed the Saleen cover to it and then re-installed it. It works great with no slipping whatsoever. For the gas pedal I was able to drill it and install it "properly" because that pedal's plastic.

BTW, I just ordered the PIAA H-1s and 9007 bulbs from CTS Imports. I'll let you know how they work when I get em in!

What Gives???

I just crawled under my X and tried to see if I could twist my bulb out of the fog lamp and found that the harness just runs straight into the body of the fog lamp..ie. theres just a female plug built into the body of the fog lamp, I can't twist it or pull it out ..... were the 99's the only ones that you can't replace the bulbs? or did they install different factory fog lights??

Campo, I checked my owner's manual ( I know, '96 Explorer, '00 front bumper, '01 fog lights and a '99 owner's manual  ) According to it you can replace the bulb and it's an 893. You just pull the wiring harness off and then the bulb comes out. Dunno what's up with yours.

Maybe you and Al have twin mystery fogs!!

UPDATE

I got my H-1s and 9007s yesterday and out 'em in. What a difference. The 9007s are whiter and brighter than the stock lights, especially on high-beam.

The PIAA H-1s which I installed in the stock fog lights are much brighter than the stock lights. Now I've just got to figure out how to get the stupid "shield" thingy out from in front of the bulb.

How is the blue on those? Is it obvious or subtle? I just had to replace a foglight bulb and was wondering if they had those in the blu like my headlights.

I think the manual for my '01 XLT says 899, but in realith what it takes is a 9145. The bulbs now installed appear to be a H-1 in an adapter. The 9145s I've seen at the few stores that have them do not have the H-1 bulb inside. Can you remove one of the existing bulbs and take photos from a couple of views?

PIAA superwhites

does anyone have them? are they as expensive as i think?
