I have a sony active black panel, with a bright blue display, and the fact that the blue-green dash lights in my 96xlt don't match has always pissed me off! As I was pulling apart the center console to string audio wiring I noticed that the LEDS in the rear console are really white with bluish, condomlike (seriously) sheaths on them. Thinking that I was a genius, I promptly took one of these to the Shack, and Fry's, but neither caried them. Kinda a specialty item it seems. Anyways, this seemed to me to be an extremely easy way to accomplish said mod (i.e without swapping the LEDs, which cost $5 a pop in blue!), if only I could find them.

Any ideas where I could find these?

Will post pics when I get a chance.

P.S I would like to avoid "painting" the bulbs/dash in anyway, but I may ultimately have to ; so any positive experiences with blue bulb paint is certainly welcome.

what about getting the Blue-face guages? that will be easier, and make your explorer stand out:)

Yeah, I will eventually, but I also want to do all of the dash buttons and stuff. Basically, I want it all one color.

hey leejen are those blue guages available for the 96 X?

i think they are available for 91-01. they come in white, red, yellow, and blue. there are others that have flames or other designs, but i think they are only for 98-01.

where would i get these?

check out a store like A&A auto (if you have any near you). i saw them on a few websites, but cant remember which ones.
try looking through some links on www.sportrucks.net
if i remember, i'll post them.

you can get blue LEDs pretty for about 2.50 apiec if you get them from ratshack. ya you'll pay 5 bucks apiece if you buy them from the store but if you go in and get them ordered through the commercial catalog you can get them cheap along with other LEDs(more common colors for a few cents apiece)

Yeah, but then I still have to go in and resolder them all, I'm still looking for some blue rubber sheaths that I mentioned earlier; thus far, however, to no avail. I'll keep you guys updated though cause if this works, it'll look amazing! Thanks
