Stock Radio Question

I am ready to upgrade. I have a 99 Ford explorer Sport with and am\fm cass\cd with changer in glove box all stock. Does the radio have the output for an amp ??? How can I tell if I have regular speakers or premium speakers and what is the max output tjey can handle ??? :eek: Thanks for any info

You best bet if you want to keep the factory HU/changer is to upgrade the speakers. Any ones you pick will be a vast improvement.

But the best upgrade will be to toss the factory HU and go aftermarket.

Do you have a subwoofer in the rear quarter panel? If you do, then you have the Mach system. The system is rated at 290 peak watts.

If you don't have the sub, you have the Premium System. If I'm not mistaken, the system is rated at 80 peak watts.

The amp for both systems are inside the receiver and there're no amp outputs so if you want to upgrade, it's better that you go aftermarket. Hope this answers your questions.

Nope, no preamps. I think the reason behind this is because Ford doesn't want to pay for damages for a new receiver if you hook up an aftermarket amp to it.
