Got a 98 sport. Has the cd/tape deck. Back seat remote controls. Works ok. Just need more substance but nothing excessive. So the stock sub setup would be sufficiant. Can i simply add the subwoofer setup without any major mods? Just got this truck and i havent dove into it much like i have my other one. This one is the wifes truck.

If you have a donor truck, then yes. However, it'd be much better to install an aftermarket system. Would sound much better and you'd thank yourself later.

I have done this already. My system in my sport leaves my ears ringing and vibrates other peoples vehicles in traffic with no difficulty. Tearing into the panel is a pita. Id just like to know if i can plug and play with equiptment that was already built for the vehicle. Loads cheaper from the jy for the amps and set up. Plus i already have a factory sub enclosure that has been modified to house a JL 8" sub. Id just like to know before i dig. It is, after all, my wifes truck. She says she doesnt need it but she doesnt always drive it. I cant stand the sound of an old school portable tapedeck thru a soup can. It needs some depth. Richer sound. The factory sound system will do. Better than whats in it now anyway.

Don't even bother. You're going to go trhough so much trouble and it won't even sound better. All the subwoofer will give you is extra bass (very little, at that). The midrange and high range will still suck. IMHO, just get a decent head unit, and new speakers. It won't sound the best, but it'll certainly sound waay better than your current setup. I got a duall xr4115 head unit http://www.walmart.com/ip/Namsung-XR4115-200W-Digital-Media-Receiver/16606799 and boss audio speakers (I forget the specific model number) and it sounds so much better now. I spent $102 in total ($40 head unit, $48 for 4 speakers, $8 for wiring harness, $16 for dash adapter). I am very pleased with my setup, and I even get a cool blue display that's really bright at night.

Im trying to retain the full function of the rear remote controls. And my only question is will it plug in and work. My wife is not an audiofile. I dont need to compete at stereo competitions. I just want to give the current system a small kick. Does it plug in?

No, it is not plug and play, the entire system is different. You will have to get an entire JBL/Mach system from dash harnesses back. It's a royal PITA.

Consider THIS- much easier.

Thank you joe. That was what i was looking for. On my sport it was a plug and play situation. Just had to add power and ground. That was why i wanted to know.

Don't do this.
Dual head units are absolute garbage.
Boss speakers are also absolute garbage.

If you're gonna do a full system upgrade, don't buy walmart crap.

For the money I spent, I'm quite pleased. Yes, it isn't the greatest, but it's definately a huge difference in sound quality. I could have spent $300+ on a nicer system, but I was sick of my old system and wanted something right away.

I understand your point of view. I for the longest time was researching how to retain the head unit, and wound up going aftermarket. Do you have the JBL system? If so, I actually think the woofer might be plug and play. But if you don't, well, let's just say you'll be going through a lot of trouble.
