I blew my 8" stock sub in the back of the exp. and I was wondering if anyone had any reccomendations on what to replace it with. I have already put two 10" subs in back but I want the 8" replaced with a name brand subso i can run the 10's with the 8. If any one has any reccomendations please let me know.
thanks

the stock sub in the explorer is actually a 6.5 inch driver but you can replace it with a 8 inch sub it you build it out a little just cut a piece of mdf with the 8 inch hole and put it infront of the stock hole. Get a jl w6 to replace the stock they dont require a ton of airspace, which you dont have and it will hit the hardest for an 8

so you are saying that the sub is not actually a 8" so i would have to do some ghetto rigging on that piece of equip. cool well I will persue it with the utmost passion. I really want to get it replaced so do you know where I can get that sub and how much it might cost me? write back please!!!

when i still had that thing in i blew it a few times but my truck was still under warrenty. i know you can get one from the ford dealer but they are not extremly cheap i dont really remember how much because i didnt have to pay for it (warrenty) but i remembering it being way to much. I would go to a good stereo shop with the blow one. and ask them what you can replace it with/ ask them how to do the 8 inch conversion.

JL now has a 6.5" that will fit the stock location nearly perfectly. The other option is to put in an 8". This is pretty easy, all you have to do is cut around the very edge of the stock hole and an 8 will fit perfectly. I did this originally because I didnt have the cash for a box. But I still use it when I have to take my box out to haul stuff, just hook up the leads and go.

I replaced mine with a lanzar 6.5 and it sounds good but in no way is that gonna keep up with your 10's. That would be a jerry rig in itself. It wouldnt even play any midbass for the system. Best thing is to go to the junkyard and get the piece that fits in there or do what that other dude on here did. where he mounted his amp w/ a neon behind that grill and it was stealth too. it actually made that spot look good. I plan on ordering my box from mtx soon, I'll sell you my lanzar if you want it.

I believe Stephen S was the one that did that with his amp, although I could be wrong.

It wasnt that long away, it should be on the first or second page. the pics show everything too

I was wrong, it's Bigtigexplorer that has the neon with the amp back there. If you do a search for neon, amp, and back, the first post that comes up with be that one.

Stephen's the one with the awesome neon's on his front liscense plate and the explorer light in his dash, which are also very awesome.

With 2 10"s, there really isn't much of a point of even having the 6.5" sub. It isn't gonna add to your bass at all. The 2 10"s will drown out any noise coming from the crappy stock sub. I'd just take the sub out and leave it at that.

Steve
