My brother has either a 2000 or '01 explorer. In the cargo area, in the side panel, there is a stock sub. It doesnt work. Just wondering if anyone had more info for me about it. Ive tried to pry it out, whats the best way to go about this??

To remove the stock factory sub you will have to remove the right rear interior panel.

To do so you will need a phillips screw driver, a Torx bit (to remove the upper seat belt bolt) and a tool to remove the plastic push pins.

bearinns08 - I took the back area of my 2001 Explorer apart this past weekend for the same reason, sub not working. It took me about 10 minutes total to remove everything and, believe it or not, I didn't break, crack, strip, or screw up anything.

If Ford hadn't have put a screw in the middle of the magnet on the sub, you (we) wouldn't have to take everything apart just to remove the sub. Besides, why the screw from the back when they put 10 in front to hold it in place?!?

bearinns08 - Oh, one more thing. Mine problem was the amp's not working, the sub is ok.

i think its too add rigidity to the flimsy plastic box. supposed to keep it from expanding under pressure and losing bass. thats my guess anyway.
