post note here, the tb with the 5.3L only makes 12 more horse power than the one with the 4.2L...leave it to chevy to put a v8 in somthing FOR LITERALY 12 extra horses... i guess i dont feel all that bad anymore lol.

There's a reason they had the SS version ya know. Anyway's that little 5.3l has a major aftermarket the little 4.2l ain't got **** for aftermarket parts cause it can't be boosted unless you have a special GM program. But that's only for the 02-05s! 06-09s can be boosted.

this 7.3L was more than just tuned, it had a FULL banks stage 3 kit. Aftermarket turbo, large down pipe, custom injectors, garden hose sized fuel lines, 3 fuel pumps... easily had 25-30 grand in her. One of my dads old friends. Thing will almost run a 12 second 1/4... i never stood a chance but i figured id rather lose with some dignity than not race lol. he can literaly turn the waste gate for the turbo OFF, he reaches almost 60 PSI of boost... thing is a MONSTER.

I never realized until tonight just how powerful the V8 actually is. This guy in a lexus es was to the left and I pulled up on the right. He started inching foward and had a good 2-3 ft rolling head start and the X just shot passed him. I wasnt even pushing it that hard and the thing got to 60 in no more than 7 seconds! That definatly makes me glad I went with a V8 explorer over the V6 trailblazer ext.

The guy in the Lexus wasn't pushing hard either.

EDIT - some of these kill lists are insane. I think some people think the other person was racing when they weren't (or they couldn't drive). Sorry but an Explorer isn't beating up on newer Mustang GTs, Camaro SS, Altima SERs.

April Fools?

Im with u on that one.. Anyways. Why chose an Explorer if you want to race? Maybe its my european blood kicking in or maybe im getting old.. But as grand as this vehicle is, its a brick with wheels. .. I love them. But if you want to race. This thing is worthless...

not true, i have beat a mustang gt(2001 i believe) by a car lenght on an estimated 1/4 mile. these rigs have quite a bit of potential, check google for KBX vs GTO... its rocket destroying an 05-06 gto with his explorer on the 1/4 mile.

P.s. i guess i should have mentioned that my rig isnt stock, same with some of the other fellows on here. Im probably putting 315 out of the crank, and 265ish at the back wheels. I have plans for a min a set of trick flow heads and crower hi rise stage 2 cams. and at most a KB Superchargr ontop of that.. im fairly certain i am going to make some import owners cry...

Anyway... I just wanted to point out that Banks products suck... And are overpriced. And three fuel pumps is retarded, I'd have to see him run a 13.XX to believe it.

This is what I was thinking...

I want to see some modded 5.0 EX times though. Just to get an idea...

i guess i should have used a little better wording, he is almost able to break into the 12's. so like a 13.10 -13.25. I wouldnt know about diesel AMP's, as im into the gas sceane. all i know is the truck is too much of a beast for me to say banks product is crap lol.

Just to be clear, if his truck is really running Banks tuning, then it does NOT have injectors. Banks does not tune for injectors. And if he has modified Stg. 2 split shot injectors, then he's not running 13.XX... Unless it's a single cab 2 wd with slicks...

How about this... That's what HE says........

Don't worry. Most diesel owners do not have a clue about diesels. Especially if they're running Banks.

I don't know how to explain it...

Banks is like a whistler tip...

Here's mine, for comparison...

This is with my wife, at part throttle. Probably 3/4 to be fair, and I know this, because the truck downshifts. If you pay good attention, after the tire stops spinning.

thats pretty intense... im not sure what to say then, all i know is it SMASHED me, and has a banks stage 3 badge on it(Which knowing the guy could be twisted humor). I do also know he has custom injectors, after market turbo, nitrus (which i understand is less effective on diesels?). i have SEEN the truck run a 13.45. he had a set of hoosers on the back end, i forget what size.. was like 4 years ago. I am now curious and i guess ill ask him what he has in it.

If he has a Banks badge on it. It very well be a joke.

Nitrous is VERY effective on diesels, it's just that we aren't able to use "wet" shots, so you can only burn what's there. If you have fuel, you can add nitrous until you lean it out, then you back it down again.

What configuration is the truck? Crew? Single? Extended cab? I'd like to know more too! I LOVE seeing fast diesels, and 13.45 is nothing to scoff at.

And here's an old pic, just because I like showing off.:D

This is how the truck sat 6 months ago... I'm not finished with the transformation yet, so I don't want to show my newest pics.;)

lol its a crew cab with the 8 foot bed, and it has a shell over the bed, its that old green color and it look just goofy as hell, untill he gets all 4 tires roasting off the line on the 1/4 lol. nothing but a black smoke screen going down the track, dual 6 inch pipes, thing is loud as hell. ill see if i can get in touch with the guy and pry some more info out of him, and ask if he cares if i get some video on his rig maybe.

Limited02 has the most documented 3rd gen v8. with minor mods (e fan, airbox mod, exhaust) he is almost breaking into the 14's. I have full bolt ons and will hopefully make it to the track here in a few weeks (need more snow to melt first). im fairly sure im going to at least break into the 14s, hoping for 89-92 mph.

Rocket or AWD rocks have supercharged explorers and i belive rocket is in the 11's now, AWD is likely going to push past that, (5.3L, trick flow heads, supercharger w/ high boost).

i would guess around 4,000 to 4,700 lbs ?

i may be wrong, but my door sticker says curb weight is just over 4300 lbs. the ALL alumn power train realy keeps the weight down i guess. Ive stripped the interior and removed my drive shaft (easily 300+ lbs of crap) and got my 0-60 times down another half a second. the carb'd 302 would be MUCH cheeper than doing what i want to do.. im going down the bored and stroked 4.6L (now 5.3L), cams, supercharger, heads... its going to be a monster if i actualy go through with it, but i have an 02 black T/a WS6 sitting down in the states that i would realy like to have up here in alaska too, so its a matter of which temptation i give way to first. ^.^
