How good are the STP Fuel System cleaners/additives? Never used additives/cleaners so I'm just curious if it's worth my money.

Same Question - User Manual Recommendations

How good are the STP Fuel System cleaners/additives? Never used additives/cleaners so I'm just curious if it's worth my money.

I have same question, however if we refer to the 2004 User Manual this is what I found

"Do not use supplemental engine oil additives, cleaners or other engine
treatments. They are unnecessary and could lead to engine damage that
is not covered by Ford warranty."

"Your vehicle was not designed to use fuel or fuel additives with metallic
compounds, including manganese-based additives. Studies indicate that
these additives can cause your vehicle’s emission control system to
deteriorate more rapidly. In Canada, many fuels contain critical fuel
system components."

"Do not use supplemental transmission fluid additives, treatments or
cleaning agents. The use of these materials may affect transmission
operation and result in damage to internal transmission components."

Well that answers that question.

How do they expect us to clean out the rails/injectors then?

Take it to the dealer so they can charge hundreds.

i have used additives many times, if thats in the owners manual its probably so that you will take the vehicle to ford and give them money

It's rare that fuel injectors clog, fuel itself is a good cleaning product, usually you only have fuel clogging problems if you've got LOTS of miles on your car.

IMO fuel system cleaning is over-rated and not a big problem as many make it out to be....

If you insist on using a fuel system cleaner, go with some SIMPLE, not anything with additives or any of that "high mileage" crap.....

if you want to go NATURAL with cleaning your fuel, dump a half of a Fifth of Grain Alcohol in your tank, that will eat thru anything in your fuel system.....but keep it away from bearings, because it's not great for them.
(we used to do this on older fuel injected cars, not sure about the newer ones.)
