Strange Drive, no reverse, need help

After going into town to apply for a job today, i came home and was climbing up little snow banks, nothing hard. I try to go in reverse, and a couple clunks then a winding noise, like grinding. Drive still works but it is kind of jittery, reverse is just a bunch of winding.

My first thoughts is that the transfercase is screwed, or hopefully the shift motor has mysteriously shifted it but not gone all the way (since its been acting up). Im really hoping it is not the transmission, its only seen 3000km (bout 1700miles) since it was rebuilt, and i just changed the fluid last week.

These damn driveline problems are getting me to a point were i just want to leave it out back and let it rust to nothing.

Do you have a warranty on the rebuild?

My first thoughts are that the rebuilder only did a soft parts rebuild when the problem layed somewhere else and never really fixed the original problem.

i think i still have warrenty on it, the first rebuild was an "imploded" oil pump.

OK transmission is dropped, going to tranny guy today. Best guess so far is the planitaries blew up or something like that. If so they get replaced and hopefully dont cost a huge amount.

I have a 97 xlt ohv auto 4 wd and just finished putting a new trane in it yesterday.went to drive it and every thing was good until i went to put it ih reverse to turn it around when I got back.Grinding comeing from t case put in drive its fine.goes into reverse in trans but tcase dont.
