Since I bought it, my Sport Trac seems to have a very strange rattle coming from the engine bay during acceleration. If I really push it hard, the engine is louder than the rattle, and if I accelerate slowly, the rattle goes away. If I have my foot about half way down, it's most noticeable.
I haven't noticed it at all except when driving - can't seem to reproduce it when parked (but also haven't tried much yet). It seems to be worst when cold, but still happens occasionally when warm. It doesn't sound like a knock or anything that just needs to be tightened; it's almost like there's a pile of tiny nuts and bolts sitting on top of the engine. It's hard to tell exactly where the noise is coming from, but it seems to be in the center and perhaps towards the rear of the engine.
Any ideas / guesses?
