I just got through cleaning the IAC motor on my wife's 95 XLT 4.0 Explorer. I have done this twice before and it did improve a slightly rough idle.
Well, after putting it back on and starting it up, theres this wierd humming sound coming from under the hood!
Yeah, the idle IS better, but that humming is driving me nuts!
I took the unit back off and looked it over, wondering if I had gotten something inside the unit or not tightened something down correctly, but everything looks fine. The idles is smooth and it drives fine...no Check Engine light or anything funky.
Once the Ex warms up, it seems to go away, but it shows up again if it sits for any lenght of time.
So...whats up wiith the humming? Has anyone else had this happen? How'd you cure it?
Can the IAC motor go bad over time? (hey it DOES have 135K miles on it and IS 6 years old!...maybe its shot for good?)
If it goes bad or is faulty, does it HAVE to trigger the Check Engine light or throw a code of some sort? (I wouldn't think so)
How long does the typical IAC module last? Are they expensive to replace?
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks!
