I am hearing a moderately high pitch hum when the explorer is turned on, eminating from the driver's sised back tire. Any ideas what this could be? It's a 91' 4x4 AT EB, and the 4x4 just recently stopped working again. I am wondering if this could have anything to do with it.

Thanks,

Jason

It sounds like the fuel pump to me. Thats normal.

Thanks Chris, just wondering, got it a couple weeks ago and I never could figure out what the noise was. Is it normal to hear the noise throgh the radio as well. I am assuming that it is the pump because when I accelerate I can hear it as long as the radio is off (the sound comes through the speakers).

So is it coming from the tire and the speakers at the same time? If your 4WD isn't working check that first.

Well, as usual, I haven't clarified what is going on. I hope this helps... the sound is coming continuously from the driver side rear tire, and can only be heard outside of the car. It is like a high pitch hum that never stops as log as the car is on. The second sound is coming from the radio speakers but is only audible when I accelerate and only when the radio is off. Kinda strange I admitt, but I'm hoping to figure it out before I go crazy. It's the little things that make the drive so much better ;) .

It is your fuel pump. Mine did ever since it was new until I put a new pump on it. Now it has a different noise.
