I picked up a 02 Explorer Limited 4.6L 4X4 a couple of months ago and it has since developed a strange power lock problem. The lock mechanism in the cargo area sounds like it is constantly either locking or unlocking as soon as the key is put into the ACC position. I do not have the door ajar light or issue, nor does this sound seem to affect anything. If I lock the doors, the 5th door is locked and glass will not open, even with the sound. The same applies to unlocked, 5th door opens as will the glass. The only issue I have is the annoying noise and potential of the motor wearing out. The temporary fix is to simply turn the radio up, but want a permanent one, thanks in advance.

Welcome to the site!

That is weird. Have you tried searching the site yet?

If no one comes up with a better idea, I would start with inspecting the wiring, especially any wiring in the hinge area. You're looking for worn insulation, loose connections, broken wires, etc.

Obviously, this is just a best guess, but it makes sense (to me), especially since this just started happening out of the blue, and especially if it's intermittent.

If you have a voltmeter, you could try to get some readings at the motor, at any connections, etc. while someone is turning the key. You may be able to isolate something that way.

Electrical problems can really be extra difficult to resolve.

Hope this helps, let us know what you find out.

Mike

Wiring looks fine and the issue is not intermittent, it is constant. With the truck on, the noise seems to come from the drivers side forward of the rear lock control buttons and above the floor. The noise sounds just like the lock actuator.
