I have a 1996 5.0 engine and tonight I noticed a strange noise. It sounds like a light sizzling noise. The closest I can describe it is when butter first starts sizzling in a frying pan, or possibly a wire arcing. Guages are all normal and there was no leaks or arcing that I could see. The engine also runs the same as it did with no skipping or anything. There's also no smell of anything burning.
Is it possible for the coil pack to short internally? Or could it have something to do with the internal EGR tube? It sounds like it's coming from the intake but with the engine running it's hard to tell for sure. I can hear it thirty feet away from it. I'm really baffled by this sound. Has anyone else ever heard this noise from the engine?
