I am really not looking for a lift. I have 31" AT's and I am happy with those. But I would like to make my suspension strong. Where do I start? The only thing I have done to my suspension, is replaced the shocks with ProComp ES9000 Gas Shocks, cause my stock ones were blown. What can I do? I have heard those torsion bars arn't very strong. :monkey:

short of a solid axle, there isnt much you can do... all torsion bar suspensions were made for trucks as a way to make them handle better on the street.... basically without major modification, it is going to stay that way....

Stronger as in rougher ride, or stronger as in won't break?

Ekkkkkkkk. Ford...what will they do next? Ford slaps those 4x4 stickers all over there trucks implying "off-road use" then they put torsion bars on it... Ill never know...

Stronger as in, toughness. As in it won't break.

they already screwed up the brand new ford explorer offroad capabilty by IRS:mad:

i mean sure you could still offroad them its jsut it will suck

srry i dont know how to help ya...

Well then, the suspension won't break on you. How's that?

I wheeled the hell out of mine with torsion bars as have many other members. As far as we know, only 2 tbars have ever broken on this site, and they were probably defective.

Well, I have driven many different trucks off-road and I was most impressed with Toyota. There 03' Prerunner 2WD V6 was AMAZINGLY smooth off-road and did some of the same stuff our 4x4 Ranger, as compared to the Ranger with the Torsion Bars. I just feel they should re-think it. Who knows, I could be wrong, its just my opinion.

The Toyota and Ranger were probably both true 2wd. The Toyota probably had a locker or LS, driving both rear wheels. The Ranger probably had open diffs, driving one rear and one front tire.

But offroad performance and durability are 2 separate things.

What really do you want? I built up my 2wd with 33s and a strong LS in the rear and could go many places no one ever thought I could go.

Good point. Where do I start? (Stronger)

Are you talking just front suspension?

To make your front suspension stronger.
You could start by boxing in the lower control arm.

Then to make it ride better in the front you could get the Bilsten reservior shocks.
And you could always add limiting strps up front.

No, atleast not the Prerunner.

My friend has a 94 yota on 33s and he has a torson bar suspension. I believe when the tacoma was introduced in 96 toyota put coil springs and struts in the front.

Runnin a larger tire like the 31's ya are, why I do have the feeling there isn't alot that you can do, so much to damage the front end, that validates strengthing it.

You arent gonna break the SLA front end unless you plan on doing some pre-runner stuff. I would not worry about it, just beat the crap outta it and have a good time.

...see my post today in the Rausch thread.

In short - I'm in spindle hell atm and shouldnt offroad after this last adventure. :hammer:

Well, you've got different spindles, as he's 4x2, and yer 4x4.

And to warrent beefing the front end would mean some wicked sick prerunner wheelin... and if you were wheeling that hard, you'd probly be going custom coilovers or something that strong 'n powerful.

Like I said, the only things I broke up front were a tie rod and a shock. And the tie rod wasn't even broken offroad. And those of you who've driven with me know I beat on my vehicles and have no mercy on suspension components.

Explorers break less suspension offroad than H2s :D
