Hello, 1st post here, but I've been reading along for a little over a month now.

Anyways, as my name says, I want an explorer, preferably a 1st gen. There are not too many of these around in my area, but when one does pop up, something's wrong with it. typical

There's a 1994 limited for sale close to my place and it doesnt look to bad for the price, considering the others I have seen. the ad says its stuck in 4x4 low. I've searched, but only got a fluke incident involving getting wet...

I've read about repairing the bushings in the shift motor, would this be a cause for it not shifting out of low range?

Thanks, this site is awesome! I have learned so much from here and hope to become a member that actually owns an explorer relatively soon :D

The shift motors are problematic, but here's two thoughts for ya. Maybe the owner doesn't know the proper way to shift out of low range? Then, you always have the option of removing the shift motor and twisting the 'knob' to get it out of low for a test drive.

welcome to the forum.

I also thought of removing it for the test drive, but I'm going to look at high mileage one tomorrow. Over the phone sounds decent and sounds like he took care of it.

We'll see though
