My car bottomed out this morning on a snow bank so I left it there while I was in school for about 7 hours. When I came out the snow had melted. Before I left it I attempted to pull it out in Low Range as well as 4 X 4 mode which I have come to the conclusion that my 4 X 4 doesnt work. But now my car is stuck in Low Range mode. I go like 35mph and it is at about 5000 RPM's. It is also overheating now. Im guessing the Low Range is causing it to overheat, but how do I get it out of Low Range? I have tried pressing the button for Low Range multiple times but the light never goes off and it is still obviously in Low Range. The 4 x 4 light is also stuck on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

To prevent damage Ford requires an auto tranny to be in Neutral before you can press the 4x4 low button (to either engage or disengage 4x4 low). If you have a std tranny you will also need to depressed the clutch. Once low is off you can press 4x4 high to completely shut off 4x4... Driving in 4x4 low on the street will but an enormous strain on the 4x4 components (primarily the auto HUBs and u-joints)...

dont drive on pavment in lo it is bad.....you get the feeling when the wheels start to kick at you you shouldnt drive in pavment with it. But put it in netrual to shift out. IF that doesnt work then restet the battery see if the computer lets you do it. OF you can manually shift the T-case for a temporary fix.

It sounds like your T-case is in 4x4 low and you have a blown Hub.. With an open diff and a blown hub the front driveshaft spins (when 4x4 is on), but without the hub to connect the front axle to the wheel the axle will just spin freely ie zero front power...

Thanks guys. Yeah, just had to be in Neutral but my car is still overheating. Think it's the thermostat since the heat doesnt work anymore either. Gonna go fix that right now so hopefully it works. But im pretty sure my hubs are bad which is now big deal since i got the car for $800 anyway.

Thanks again.

Well it wasnt the thermostat. But now we think the heater return line is clogged since i had to replace the coupling when it broke off. Pretty sure the part that broke off is clogging it.
