While driving my Ex this morning on a few errands ('92, 4.0 auto), the truck drove fine after it started, but once the engine RPM got to around 2300, it *stayed* there, and would not come down. I put it in park, and the RPM rose rather quickly, so I turned it off. Any ideas from the fine folk here as to how I should proceed? Assume I am reasonably mechanically and electrically inclined...but have very little experience under the hood. Thanks in advance for any help or ideas.

check your throttle body. There is probably 12 years worth of grease, grime & crud all over the linkages. Spray it all off with throttle body cleaner.

If that does not work, you may have to pull the old cable from its sheath , lubricate and replace.
