Hello all~
First of all, for those of you with a 4.0L OHV engine, what is everyone's idle speed in neutral? both manual and auto transmissions. Mine does about 1000 when fully warmed up. It seems to idle slow when it's first warming up and somehow as it gets hotter and hotter the base idle gets faster. I'm confused. Any ideas would be great.... just about everything is new. I know it's going to be something stupid. Possibly my coolant temp sensor? Thanks!

George

my idle revs up to 1100-1200 when it first starts, once it settles and the choke opens up or something and within 1-3 seconds its around 750-900 (reads a little below a grand)

94 xlt 4x4 auto

could this be a MAF sensor problem?? my truck did idle funny until I cleaned mine.. if somehow you have lean condition your truck would idle fast, this can be very hard on parts, an extreme example would be like the increase in rpms your lawnmower / weedeater gets when it runs out of gas.

I'd check the MAF. from there I would be thinking its going to be a harder to detect problem.. do you have an aftermarket or home-made intake?? this may have the MAF getting too hot depending on location, throwing the readings off....

does it stumble? sluggish acceleration??? any other symptoms?
